Camping Technology (CT)

This is New Technology. Does it work and if so, at what cost?

You wouldn’t believe what I (we) take when going camping for only one week:

1 SLR digicam and lenses (with 2 1GB cards)
2 small digicams (1 of gf)
1 PalmOne Treo 650 (with Tom Tom Navigator 5 with Bluetooth GPS coming soon)
1 Palm Tungsten 3 (with TomTom Navigator 5 with wired GPS)
1 Magellan Sportrak Color GPS
1 Lifebook (B110) (sub)notebook (where I am writing this on – the 5th of July – before the London bombings)
1 pocket 20GB harddisk
1 WiFi pc-card

3 Gameboys Advance (+ pile of games) (3 kids of gf)
1 Palm Zire 31 (gf)
2 mobile phone (one for security, the other gf’s)

and EVERYTHING needs power straight or needs to get powered by at least a pile of batteries.

OK, this is what I have. Did I forget something?

What I don’t have, is the connection. Okay, I took this WiFi-card, but I am on a camping in a small valley in Eastern Belgium (Ardennen). The WiFi card sees a connection, but I can’t make a connection through it, and if so, who’s connection is it. So forget about this.
In that case I prefer to use GPRS or EDGE (Telfort) what I am used to in The Netherlands (, mainly on my Treo 650, but easily linked to a notebook like the thingie I have. This normally costs me 1,50 euro per MB. But when using this technology in Belgium this would cost me 14,95 per MB!!! A Big Hooray for roaming!!

So the technology is great, the possibilities are great, but in fact your should stay at home to make normal (priced) use of all these possibilities.

Thank you guys!! Great!! I know you really want to make fortune before you are 30 years old, but come on, you will reach that goal too when you make the prices lower and I would make more use of it.
And for the guys that are on the wrong side: “you are not going to make your fortune before becoming 30 years old, so stop trying”.
