Coldblooded Barbie (CB)

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Believe it or not. The world famous Caucasian blonde goes Inuit.

In a Canadian Barbie fashion designer contest the design of The ‘Kenojuak Gown’ was won by a second-year fashion student.

Wow, Barbie is crossing borders… (apparently again… ;-) )

Healthy Luring (HL)

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Finally there is one comic character used for healthy food. SpongeBob SquarePants, one of the most populair figures on the childrens channel Nickelodeon, will be put on fruit and vegetable packages to get the kids to eat healthier.

McDonalds and all other fast food chain do the same, but for their bad food. I wrote about this and their toys before.

I don’t like the luring, but if it helps kids to eat healthier, than I will look the other way. ;-)

Bad Drinks (BD)

Friday, July 15th, 2005

Just like cigarettes soft drinks should have health warnings, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), a US based consumer group.
There should be stronger pressure on such drink producers, like Pepsico and Coca-Cola.

These soft drinks are play a role in the epidemic obesity (read: fatty degeneration) increase in North America and Europe, the CSPI says. Each can of regular Coca-Cola has the equivalent
of 10 (!) tablespoons of suger in it.

You may think that people know what they eat and drink, but around me I still notice a big ignorance regarding food, drink and even cosmetics.
People eat and drink everything without thinking about whats in it. I don’t say I don’t drink soft drinks or eat things that are questionable. I do!
But in the supermarket I always look what is in the product and then buy it ot not. Maybe this is also because I am a vegetarian. To me it is a second or maybe even first nature: read the label.

Start doing this and you at least know what goes down your throat!

Food Disgrace (FD)

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

I told you before that I am a vegetarian. Today I found a guide full of restaurants in The Netherlands.

I am an information specialist by profession, but always wanted to become cook or photographer. For various reasons I became a … librarian, but always loved to eat and cook.

This guide was full of high society restaurants and recipe and had of course my attention. But except the desserts there was NO dish without fish or meat. I am not getting used to this fact.
Restaurants seem to have no interest in high quality vegetarian food, is my opinion. They prefer the most exotic types of game, meat, poultry or fish: kangaroo, ostrich or crocodile.

What a disgrace!!

Ant Banging (AB)

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

In The Netherlands we have this word ‘miereneuker’, ‘ant f_cker’. It is a term of abuse for people that are quite strict about things.

Since the end of last month it has become the number one word to use against police officers. This is due to a judicial decision
to withdraw a fine of a man that used this word against a traffic warden, the most hated ‘police men’ in the country.

To the Public Prosecutor it is still a term of abuse and will be fined.

The judge says that it could be seen as a compliment too…

Who is right?!

Head Voices (HV)

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Strange enough I never hear voices…

But a research team of the University of Sheffield discovered that most people that hear voices, hear male voices.

You know why?
That is because the female voice is much more complex than the male voice.

What?! Are they talking about the female voice only?!

Come on you guys, get a life!
