Still being in Barcelona you meet people that have their own way of living.

This guy I liked. He was sitting on the street making ashtrays out of old beer and soda cans, and sells them for 1 euro. It was quite simple what he did (as he showed me later), but I liked it.
We started talking and I did hear what his life was about.

He left Liverpool at the age of 14 to never get back there. He has been travelling Europe since. Now in a bus with his wife. Their grown up kids are living about the same life.

The most interesting thing this man told me was the fact that Spain doesn’t have a recycling program for waste. He thinks he pays a little contribution to the world environment. And this is a small but welcome start, to my opinion.

In Berlin (and whole Germany), where I was last weekend, they have lots recycling programs. I know about it, because I worked there years ago and had a few ‘green’ friends.

The Green Party (Die Grünen) are so green that they sometimes overreact. This is the case now. Whatever drink you buy, in a PET bottle, a can or something you have to pay quite a sum as deposit. But this not the problem, we do that for years in The Netherlands, like in Germany.

The stupid thing is that you can’t bring back the bottles and cash at whatever supermarket or shop. In fact you need to get back to the shop where you bought it.
As a tourist you want to take something to drink outside and drink it there. Bring it to a shop to collect your deposit is not a problem, but in this case you buy a drink, you need to drink it right in the shop and bring it to the service desk.

Doing something for the environment is great. I prefer the small way, because the other way is just stupid.
