Smart Bling (SB)

Friday, September 16th, 2005

This is interesting ‘ news’ . The Dutch research institute TNO and Waleli did a survey about the use of mobile (smart)phones.
The outcome is that the phones have uncountable features, but quite a bunch of the users has never been on the Internet with it (49%), never used e-mail (57%) and never used MMS (53%).

The feature that is used the most is the build-in clock (58%), even before where it all started with, making phone calls (52%).

It seems to me that the manufacturers can stop making Smart Bling Phones. Only half of the people are using the features.

Now my question arises. Why do people buy such a sofisticated phone when there are never going to use it?! Does it look interesting?

I almost forgot.
The biggest pain is the battery that doesn’t last long enough, 37%.

But if you use your phone as a clock, maybe you’d better buy a wrist watch. That battery last for a least a year…

German-Turkish Kill (GTK)

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

There are some things I don’t understand and think will never understand. In Germany three brothers (18, 24 and 26 years old) are in court for the murder on their own sister.

Without going into details – because not important – we are talking about the killing of a person, in this case your own sister, because you don’t approve her way of living.

The father swore on the Quaran that his family had nothing to do with the three-shots-in-the-face murder. It turned out to be a bit different.

Killing is always wrong, but your own sister and daughter…

Robot Construction Worker (RCW)

hrp-3p
In Japan – where else – Kawasaki Industries developed a robot that is strong enough to do construction work. The humanoid Robot, HRP-3P is quite capable to do different kind of ‘tricks’, including working in a considerable shower (of rain) and walking 1,5 km/h on a surface that looks like slippery ice.

I am really curious when the first real robo cops will do their surveillance in the streets. The HRP-3P looks tough enough already.

Cross Politics (CP)

Monday, September 12th, 2005

The International Red Cross organisation is looking for a new emblem for all members. The proposal is a red diamond, the Red Crystal. It will become the substitute for the red cross, the red crescent and maybe the red star of david. The proposal is a red diamond, the Red Crystal.
Yes, a maybe. The Israeli equivalent organisation of the Red Cross has never been recognised and is till today not a full member.

Can you tell me why? I always had the idea the Red Cross was a non-political organisation. (I just read the Fundamental principles at Wikipedia).

(The Red Crystal looks like a Japanse ‘mon‘, a family crest used by the samurai families and know for it’s (sometimes) simplicity and elegance – I hope the design was original. They can check in my bookcase. ;-) )

Burglar on Tour (BOT)

Monday, September 12th, 2005

Don’t take your children with you when burgling a house.

In the town of Pieterburen (NL) an inhabitant found a car with two children in it on his driveway. When asking the kids where their father was, one of them answered that his father was breaking in.
In the house the man found a man and a woman who were going through the house.

Great fun, taking your kids on a Burglar Tour!!

Wireless Treo (WT)

Friday, September 9th, 2005

The Treo 650 was about the best smartphone I could imagine…with some little disappointments. The absolutely ridiculous (read: sick!) amount of internal and usable memory of about 22MB (!!) is the worst of that.

On my wishlist I had WLAN, but that was not that important to me. Now Enfora made a WLAN adapter for the Treo650.

That’s cool! Whether I am going to buy it or not… The price is okay at $ 149,- I think…

Look here

Okay, it doesn’t look very PSP, but the funtionality could be great…
