Deaf Beer (DB)

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Ever tried to order a beer and waited for a bar tender for quite a while?
Now we know why!

People working in bars, pubs and clubs are risking their hearing abilities. Being exposed for a long time to high volume sound is bad for your ears. We know that for years.

Till now I only heard about campaigns addressed to the public that goes out. This is the first time I hear about the people that work in this business.

There are earplugs that can filter out a certain range of frequencies. The filtered sound is deadened to a normal level and you can keep on going taking orders.
Maybe you think they are not sexy, but it is a possibility to keep on hearing well, nice for when you are not working

No New China (NNC)

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Nothing new.
The Peoples Republic Of China, one of the last communist bulwarks, is blacking out the web pages of the free and open source online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

It seems that since October 18th several territories, including the Shanghai area are not able to reach the pages. User get the message that due to technical problems the is temporary no connection possible.

Don’t tell me that these red guys are still using a red pencil to censor. They know how to do the trick.

But what are they trying?! Trying to put blinkers on China?! Come on, open your eyes!

Only one year after launch the Firefox Internet browser had its 100.000.000th (read: one hundred million) download, a very respectable amount. Daily between 200.000 and 300.000 were downloaded in that period.

There are some security flaws know, but this can not prevent users to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox. The newest version 1.5 of Firefox will be available in about two weeks.

Let anyone (and certainly Mickey$oft) know that we want to keep to the W3 web standards, so start using Firefox NOW!!!

Next to that he did send about 8000 e-mails a month at work. He expected his boss not being very happy about this and quitted his job himself.

Cold Feet (CF)

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

It’s gonna be cold the coming months, the British Met Office predicts. For the Continent it won’t be different.
How is this possible? It is really the effect following on the pollution caused by all humans?

Are some humans more equal than others? I mean, this will have it’s effect on hundreds of thousands of people or even millions.
The prices of heating fuel will rise and these people didn’t even help to pollute, because they don’t have the money to drive a car.

Can we have we have a 365 days a year, 12 hours a day sun (365/12), please!!

Strong Luck (SL)

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

A three years old boy survived being alone with the dead body of his mother for two weeks before he was saved.

The kid succeeded to survive on crisps, fruit juice and other things he found in the fridge, but was very skinny and dehydrated when found.

I don’t want to blame anybody, but still I don’t understand how these things can happen, people lying dead in their houses for weeks.
In this case it is a terribly tragic experience for a kids this age.

Just sad… :-(
