FireFox In Theatre (FIT)
Internet browser Firefox 1.5 will soon be in the theatre close to you! Free of charge!
In only one year, it grabbed an important 10% share of the internet browser market. As successor of the free Netscape browser it is doing a great job.
This is where I started with. Netscape. 1994. Not the first first days, but the first browser days. Before that we were ‘gophering‘ the net and were quite happy with that. The hierarchical construction made it easy to use, next to all the command line programs we were using.
Getting into the catalog of a Japanese University over a telnet session, getting you mail directly on the server. The easy to use client-server model wasn’t widespread for the Internet. But we loved it!
Commercial goals are taking over the Internet, but innovative initiatives like the Mozilla FireFox project give me a feeling of the old days…
People are programming together and doing a great job to make themes and extensions for themselves and others too. Things to make YOUR way of browsing fun again.
