Techno illiterates you could call them. People that want new technology, but really don’t know how to handle all these new devices.

Now a London department store, Selfridge, is offering one-to-one tutorials. For a price. Almost the price of the cheapest iPod.

Good commercial thinking!

Quiz (Q)

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

I am sure you will recognise the blue thingy there… Yes, an iPod mini, that is right! Well done!

But that other thing? What is this?

Do you already know?

Well, it is the Belkin Tunedok that helps you to hold your iPod mini in a car mug holder.

Okay… I am glad you are telling me…

New Books (NB)

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

I have always been a book lover. That has nothing to do with me being an information specialist/librarian.

I am a heavy computer user too and own all kids of electronic stuff, like notebooks (big and small), a mp3-player, Palm Treo 650 and so on.

But nothing – as a reading experience – has been able to attract my attention except real paper. Book or magazine.

I did focus on our national electronics company Philips, but now Sony made an electronic book that is said to have almost the same sharpness as a real book.

Will it finally be possible to take only one book size device on vacation? With all 5 full 500 pages books and 10 magazines on it?

Can’t wait… But I will wait for some competition, because I think a price of 300 to 400 US$ (255-340 euro’s) is a bit high.

Move Closer (MC)

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

I didn’t see anything about it on the news bulletin on television, but Greece was moved… Yes, really.

It moved 6 meters closer to the north of Africa, caused by a heavy earthquake. Normally it moves about 4 centimeters a year, but this time six meters in one quake.

“Oh, move closer baby!” [yes, Tom Jones]

Tech News (TN)

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Yes, what you are going to read is tech news. And it is about porn too! So, if you are under 18, don’t read on!

Every industry is very cautious with giving numbers about turnovers. But not the pornindustry. They are proud. And they have reason to be proud. I don’t know anything about exploitation or something, but the turnover of 2005 was about 12,6 billion dollars!

The boys and girls there have brains too or at least know who to hire.
They are always looking for new opportunities and they see them in for example i-Pod and PSP-owners. New technology is booming and closely watched and rapidly implemented.

Healthy industy, financially at least!

Haj Accidents (HA)

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Haj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that every muslim has to undertake at least once in his live. It is very important in a muslim life. It is even one of the five cornerstones of the religion.

There is one thing I do not understand. Mecca is in Saudi Arabia, one of the richest countries around the world. How on earth is it possible that there have been so many tragedies the last few decades around Mecca. Now another 20+ have been killed in a hostel collapse.

Is there nothing to do about the security of all these people? Or is it counted as a sacrifice?
