Heil Bill

US diplomats tried to get influence on the EU-decission in the Micro$oft anti-trust case, European Commissioner Neelie Kroes told the Dutch financial daily Het Financieele Dagblad.

I don’t like the woman. She is cold and I find her unengaging (and a witch like Camilla! No, not this one, I mean THIS one.) But in this case she gets my RESPECT!

I think it is unbelievable that the US, just like it does with using the spy network Echelon, uses diplomatic ways or espionage to protect the financial interests of US companies. And this to the prejudice of allied and a friendly nations.

fon will make the world go round…

September 24, 2006 By: DutchClick Category: DAILYlife, TECHTOYlife, TRAVELlife

Order La Fonera

…the world go round…

…at least, that is what I hope for!

What is it all about? Well, just like the old skool Internet rules: SHARE!!!

fon wants you to share your internet connection with the world. In return you will be able to have a wi-fi connection all over the globe at spots where other Foneros live.

When I am on the road - and this is not that often anymore - I want to be able to have a wireless connection at a reasonable price.
But this seems to be impossible. The big telco’s want earn money with wi-fi, and I mean loads of money.
I am prepared to pay, but don’t like to be squeezed out…

I did order the fon social router, La Fonera, last week!

I hope you will do the same! It will cost you $ 5 or € 5 (okay, excluding shipping and tax (€ 10 + € 2-something in Europe) but this is still only € 17 as an investment for the future!) ORDER HERE!
[!!! THIS € 5 OFFER HAS ENDED ON 8TH NOVEMBER 2006 !!!]

You still ask why? I like to share, don’t you?!

[Google and Skype did invest in fon, just you know]

Killer spinach

September 19, 2006 By: DutchClick Category: DAILYlife, NATURElife

Popeye and spinach
It isn’t even a major item at the CNN Health pages, but in the rest of the US this is headline news: Killer Spinach!

• FDA warns consumers not to eat any fresh spinach
• Number of people sickened by E. coli on spinach now at 111
• Recall expanded Sunday night to three more brands

That does even floor you, Popeye! Doesn´t it?!

Wikipedia gets competition

September 18, 2006 By: DutchClick Category: LIBRARYlife

One of the co-founders (!) of the free Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia, Larry Sanger, is starting his own compedium or in fact an elitist encyclopedia.
Just everything that Wikipedia didn´t want to be, I think.
Larry left the Wikipedia ship in early 2002 by the way (!).

I think Larry is a sucker! You want to know why?!

Wikipedia is one of the most succesfull and valuable treisures of the Internet!
No, not because it is flawless. Just because it is (almost) fully global, universal and made by the community itself. The good old Web1.0 feeling: one hand washes the other ….

Mistakes are made, articles are vandalised, of some articles the neutrality is disputed, that is alll true. But still it is the biggest source in its kind to start your search with.

A lot of people think paper encyclopedias always tell the truth. This too isn’t the case. And so does Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a great start for whatever subject. AFTER THAT you must go on and find more information from different sources.
Just like you should do with the different sources you find with Google.

Bye, Larry!

French ‘help’

French Village People Unifil

The French have always been cowards…

Now they have the loudest voice about Lebanon-Israel. Not because they want to bring peace into the region. They want to show the Arab world that they are still on their side. They want tho lead the mission.

They have to, because they have longtime historical tires to the Arab world (a lot of countries in the region have French as first or second language), but maybe most important they have a realy large Arab-Islamic population in France and they had agressive riots there.

I took about weeks before they could decide whether they would send troups as a part of the UN force, or not. And they did. 200 in count! Meanwhile a few more. This is quite substantial France!

Protected by the Village People!

Now they are camping in Lebanon, it seems. Look at the pictures here, here and here

Aussie Dave, love your comments, Dude!

Green data

XS4ALL logo

My Internet service provider (ISP) is swithing from normal ‘grey’ energy to sustainable energy.

I am sure XS4ALL is one of the first providers in the world to implement it.

As you can read in the press release the datacenter uses about the same amount of 1000 (!) [Dutch] family homes. Next to switching to sustainable energy XS4ALL will start using water cooling to go to an increase of energy consumption by 30%.

A good and healthy Internet doesn’t stop at your front door!
