Mars and Twix going veggie again…

May 20, 2007 By: dutchclick Category: DAILYlife, VEGGIElife

Mars

There has been quite a commotion about MasterFood planning to put rennet into their chocolate bars. Mars, Twix, Maltesers and Snickers would be affected and therefore not suitable for vegetarians anymore.

Within a few days after the commotion and protests of vegetarian organisations Masterfood decided not to use the animal product.

As a vegetarian for 26-years now, I am trained to always closely read the cartons, cans and all packages I buy. Sometimes I am taken by surprise, because the ingredients of products I buy are changed from one day to another. My favorite sambal, contained something of beef suddenly, a wild mushroom soup I like suddenly contains chickenfat.

Veggies, watch you back!

Terminate a pregnancy

May 20, 2007 By: dutchclick Category: NATURElife, REMAININGlife

This term is right out of the dictionary. It is said being an euphemism for abortion and it is a very difficult subject with numerous angles (religious, health, etc.) and very difficult to think, talk and write about….

I would rather write about gps and other nice toys, but I have been watching Belgian television this morning. This is easy, as we share the same language Dutch / Flemish.

There was a coverage about French women who are going to The Netherlands to have a termination of their pregnancy. Again on their way to The Netherlands, just like drug couriers.

Does this say something about MY country or, in this case, the stupidity of France?!

Is The Netherlands a country without laws and with stupid ideas on drugs, abortion, and so many other subjects? I don’t think so.

In The Netherlands we have quite liberal (as in: liberty) ideas about things. It doesn’t mean that there are no discussions about these important issues.

Abortion is not always the solution, but to condemn, and even sabotage (yes, with filmed and recorded proof!) the intensions of women who have probably a reason not to have a baby.

So women still have nog right to make their own descision, within medical ethics and the law, even in France!

Vive La France!

Biased…again…

May 19, 2007 By: dutchclick Category: DAILYlife, ISRAELlife, NEWSlife

It is interesting and extremely sad, but not new, to see that the Dutch press is giving an biased view on the Israeli raids, just like the press in most other countries, the UK for instance.

An important example is seen here. NOS Teletekst (an extra signal to the television signal) is one of the major newssources of the Dutch. The NOS is know as a bastion of lefties and they show it again.

The story is that the bad Israelis did some air strikes on targets in Gaza, like they did last wednesday.

The last paragraph is a kind of “Oh yes, didn’t I tell you? Oh, sorry for that!”: |Yes, there were 100 rockets fired to the city of Sderot, close to Gaza. Aren’t they used to it now?

NOS Teletekst - Israel and Gaza

I can tell you that I will never get use to a biased press.

Missing hype

May 17, 2007 By: dutchclick Category: DAILYlife, NEWSlife, REMAININGlife

Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant is asking an interesting question about the case of the missing 4-years old British girl, Madeleine, in Portugal.
I had been thinking about the same the last few days… I was afraid to be called insensitive. But my opinion is shared.

To my opinion this missing/kidnapping is a very sad and for all personal tragedy for the parents. But the Dutch media, following the really hysteric UK press, are making a real hype of it.

There are children missing in every country in Europe (just to take a geographic dividing line) every day and we don’t hear anything of it. But this news is BIG and everywhere!

The news came as the family and friends of Madeleine McCann launched a fund to help trace the four-year-old and bring her abductors to justice.

Unveiled at Leicester’s Walkers Stadium yesterday, Madeleine’s Fund is inviting people to make donations in person at their local bank, by post or via the internet to help pay for Maddie’s parents, Gerry and Kate, to stay in Portugal to continue their search.

Even David Beckam is donation money, out of the USA.

I have another comparison in my head, but saying that will be about the same as blasphemy. If you want to know, ask me…
